The final two pieces of the Walter Piano Building came down Friday in Elkhart. The 170,000 square foot multilevel structure has housed many things, most famously the Walter Piano company.
The Community Projects Coordinator for the city of Elkhart, Denny Correll is excited for the future possibilities of the site. "We are hoping to get maybe a doctors office or a medical facility just to expand this area," Correl says, "because once you start a good size medical facility, the area just changes dramatically."
The neighbors are also excited to see the building come down. "There is a surge of hope right now," neighbor Kristen Senne said, "and I can even see it in the neighborhood people are starting to do some things with their properties."
There is a neighborhood meeting to discuss the possible dreams for the neighborhood, Tuesday March 26th, at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 6pm.
