Students from the University of Maryland Habitat for Humanity chapter dedicated their week to volunteer in St. Joe County. This was the group's first trip to Indiana.
They helped seven families build a place to call HOME!
Catherine Birney, the Habitat for Humanity co-president at University of Maryland says, "Everyone is just so thankful and everytime you meet them you're just amazed at how appreciative they are of the work that you're doing."
Those students aren't the only ones working on building houses in Michiana. Local volunteers with Habitat for Humanity of St. Joe County are about to get a good workout. They will try to build the walls of a house in UNDER THREE hours.
It's called the "Rock the House Build." Tomorrow, Holy Cross College students will use only hammer and nails to build the walls at the Habitat Warehouse in Mishawaka.
"We really are at ground zero. working with all the volunteers, focusing on our mission and helping as many families as we possibly can," said Greg Chipman, the director of construction.
This is the sixth time that Habitat for Humanity has held the Rock the House Build.
