Driver crashes stolen car into Goshen business

A wild night for Goshen police as a 21 year old led officers on a chase in a stolen car that crossed county lines.

It started in Ligonier early Sunday morning when police says Abraham Villegas stole gas and then took off, heading for Goshen.

Police say Villegas tried to crash head-on into two police cars and on-coming traffic on U-S 33.

Villegas eventually lost control of the S-U-V near 33 and 10th street.

The vehicle flipped multiple times, sheared off a utility pole, and crashed into a restaurant called Taqueria San Jose.

Police say the crash caused major damage to the building.

Villegas and one of his passengers, a 14 year old male, ran from the scene.

Officers caught up with them a few blocks away.

They were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

A second passenger, a 15 year old girl, who stayed in the vehicle was hurt and taken to the hospital with a knee injury.

Police say the car Villagas was driving, was stolen in Elkhart Saturday night and belonged to the 14 year old's mother.

Police say Villegas is homeless and faces a number of charges including: Criminal Recklessness with a motor vehicle- 4 counts, Leaving the Scene of a personal injury accident, and Resisting law enforcement- Fleeing.

He is also held for an Elkhart County Warrant.
