UPDATE: Man injured in Fulton standoff with police

Posted: Updated:

A man was injured and is now in a Fort Wayne Hospital after a standoff with police in Fulton.  Police were called out to a "domestic situation with shots fired" shortly after 8:00pm on Wednesday.

Police say they arrived at the home on the 300 block of West Brown Street to find 46-year-old Nicholas Westerhoff inside and refusing to come out.

Police surrounded the home.  At one point, police say they heard shots fired inside the home.  The standoff continued for nearly three and a half hours.  At 11:40pm Westerhoff came to the door, and authorities say he started shooting.

Officers returned fire and Westhoff was injured, but police are not sure if an officer hit him or the injury was self-inflicted.

Westerhoff was taken to a Fr. Wayne Hospital.  He is currently listed in critical condition.  The investigation is ongoing.
