Students walk for the poor

Hundreds of school kids walked for the poor Thursday.  St. Joseph Grade School students walked from their school to St. Vincent De Paul in South Bend.  They carried bags full of donations for those in need.

The walk honors Eric Henry who in 2002 made a promise to "try to be more giving."  He died the next day as a result of a car accident.  Eric's mom said everyone who walked Thursday is continuing Eric's wish.  "I never would have imagined that we would be here today and experiencing this.  And it's been 11 years already and his spirit is living on through them," said Mary Molnar.

Over 440 students participated in the walk.  They said they've been collecting donations for St. Vincent De Paul for a few months and were happy to hand it over Thursday.  "It's really exciting to help all the people in need," said 8th Grader Cole Short.  And Talle Corrigan said, "Not everyone is a fortunate as we are we're all very lucky to go to a catholic school and some people don't get that opportunity because their families can't afford it."

This is the first year St. Joseph Grade School has done this donation drive and walk for St. Vincent De Paul.
