Road Construction projects begin April 1st

Posted:

Spring is here, and that means road construction.  Drivers around the area will be dealing with a variety of projects that got underway Monday.

In Mishawaka, North Cedar Street between Lincolnway East and Mishawaka Avenue will be closed to through traffic for water main construction.

Through traffic will be detoured using Mishawaka Ave., Main St., Church St., and Lincolnway.

It is anticipated this area will reopen to traffic on Sunday, April 7, 2013, weather permitting.

In Elkhart, per INDoT work on the 2-mile SR 19 road reconstruction project is scheduled to resume south of the St. Joseph River for the 2013 construction season.  Weather permitting, there will be a shift of traffic to the east side of SR 19, starting Monday, April 1, to accommodate construction on the west side of the road.  Traffic will be restricted to one 10-ft-wide lane in each direction, northbound and southbound, between Lusher Avenue and the St. Joseph River.

Side streets along SR 19 in this area will be closed as necessary by the contractor through the construction season.  It is anticipated that the west leg of Indiana Avenue will close toward the end of April, weather permitting.

In South Bend, lane restrictions begin on State Road 23 (Eddy Street) between Campeau Street and the Five Points Intersection (South Bend Avenue) through July.

At least one lane in each direction will always be maintained along this stretch. Crews will be removing pavement and building storm sewers.
