Smallbone & Stuppy enjoy coaching Michiana All-Stars

Last week, Michiana's best high school basketball players came together for the McDonald's All-Star game...but as FOX 28's Drew Taylor tells us, it was also a family reunion for two former area stars who were calling the shots from the sideline.

Sydney Smallbone and Katy Stuppy were two of Michiana's most prominent players in their high school days...

Smallbone won a State Championship for South Bend St. Joe's and went on to play at Tennessee.

While Stupy was a star at Dowagiac and later ran point for Bethel College...
Both were back on the court, but this time they were calling the shots...

Smallbone learned from the best...Pat Summitt, the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history...and some of her style has rubbed off.

"I'm catching some of the drills we used to run in practice.
Couple of offenses I put in are Coach Summit's.
So, it's kind of cool to give back to the area and teach some of Pat's philosophies and some  basic stuff, pretty cool."

Katy has aspirations of becoming a coach someday...This was a chance to get her feet wet.

"I gave them like a few basic plays, but just to showcase their talent and use what they can do and help each other out and make it as simple as possible.
Play the basketball like you know and love.
You don't have to be robots out there."
Competition comes naturally to these two.
They've been going at it for years because they're actually cousins...

"I have never been a coach and to see each other across the sideline and  like"are you going
to press me right now, really?"
We were kind of joking about it."

 "She's a little spit-fire too.
She gives it all she's got, so bragging rights are on the table right now."
