Deadly force justified in Tuesday's South Bend shooting

Posted:

The man arrested following an officer involved shooting and an undercover drug operation is now facing six different felony charges.

Walter Wilbourn of Indianapolis was charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Battery With a Deadly Weapon, and two Cocaine Possession counts on Thursday.

Wilbourn is accused of getting into a car, ramming police cars and attempting to run over two police officers after they tried to arrest him in a drug bust.  Police say they were forced to open fire on his vehicle.  Wilbourn's vehicle crashed threw a fence, and police were able to arrest him.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutors office reviewed the incident and determined that the use of deadly force was justified.  No charges will be brought against the officers.

Wilbourn is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail on $1,000,000 surety bond.
