Race for the Cure begins butterfly memorial garden

You may notice something new at this year's Race for the Cure in South Bend.  The Susan G Komen Foundation has started a butterfly memorial garden.

With a $25 donation, you can decorate a butterfly cut-out for the garden.  Each butterfly represents a loved one.  "It's a way to honor breast cancer survivors, those fighting their battle currently, and those that we have unfortunately lost to the disease," explained Sheri Miller Story with Race for the Cure.

On Thursday patients and staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology got involved.  Pamela Harshman is undergoing chemo herself, but she still wanted to participate to honor others who are battling cancer.

"I have a good outlook. I have a lot of faith," said Pamela.  "I trust in the Lord with everything and with this it brings back to mind that there's other people going through different types of cancer."

The butterflies will be on display during the 2013 Race for the Cure held on Saturday June 15th at Potawatomi Park in South Bend.
