Western and Dundee open after crash causes gas leak

The intersection of Western Avenue and Dundee Street is back open in South Bend after a Friday morning crash caused a gas leak.

Crews opened it back up around 5:30. The intersection has been transformed into a temporary four-way stop. And is expected to stay that way for up to a week.

Indiana State Police tell FOX 28's Amir Abbas the intersection marked the end of a police chase around 1:44.

They say a man hit a utility pole, took out the gas meter and then hit a building before leaving his car. He was later tackled on foot and taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries before being released and sent to jail.

We're told no houses were evacuated and NIPSCO left the scene shortly after 6:00.
