State Road 933 project to cause big headaches for drivers

Drivers who take State Road 933 or Lincolnway East to get from Mishawaka to Elkhart may want to be thinking up a different route.

Starting Monday the bridge over Baugo Creek near the Elkhart-St. Joseph County line will be closed. Crews are going to be replacing that bridge.

INDOT asks drivers to take Capital Avenue to McKinley Highway to Ash Road to get back to State Road 933. You can also take County Line Road to Washington Street to Apple Road.

If you'd like to avoid State Road 933 completely there are plenty of routes you can take to get from Elkhart to Mishawaka or vice versa.

  • Take State Road 19 in Elkhart to the U.S. 20 bypass to State Road 331 in Mishawaka
  • Take Bypass Road in Elkhart east. It will turn into Old U.S. 20 and eventually McKinley Highway which will take you to Mishawaka.
  • Take California Road in Elkhart east. It will turn into Edison Road and Eventually Day Road which will take you to Mishawaka.

INDOT has not announced a specific date for the completion of the project, but they do expect it to be finished by the end of 2013.
