New Ethanol Plant owners still looking for operator

The South Bend Common Council got an update Monday about the future of the ethanol plant.

During committee meetings, the city attorney told Council Members the new owners have an aggressive marketing campaign in place to find a new operator for the plant.

Residents near the plant were having flooding problems when the plant shut down.

The city attorney says the new buyer is maintaining the plant and it's in their best interest to find a new operator.

"Rather than buy all of that from scratch, a new owner would be glad to have everything in working condition and ready to walk in. And the price of that is much higher than selling part by part," says South Bend City Attorney, Aladean DeRose.

In the meantime, the city has agreed to keep a pump running at the plant for six months to help residents dealing with flooding.
