UPDATE: Mishawaka Police tell FOX28 the man wanted for several armed robberies in Mishawaka and South Bend has been taken into custody.  Police say at this point in the investigation, they believe the suspect told his victims a fake story about needing cash to pay medical bills for a sick child.  Police say he admitted to several robberies including one at Jake's on the Square.

The following is from a release from the Mishawaka Police Department:

On 04/10/2013 at approximately 3:30PM officers were dispatched to La Candy Shoppe on Mishawaka Avenue in South Bend in reference to a robbery. The description of the robber matched that of a person that had robbed several locations in Mishawaka and South Bend.     Detectives from the Mishawaka Police department were in the area of Ewing and Twyckenham  following up on a possible suspect reference the robberies. At that point they located Christopher J. Williams. He was taken in to custody with the assistance of South Bend officers.  Evidence from the past robberies was also recovered.

Christopher J. Williams was transported to the Mishawaka Police Department where he was interviewed by detectives from Mishawaka and South Bend.

During the interview Mr. Williams admitted to his involvement in seven robberies in Mishawaka and South bend including the one from today at La Candy Shoppe.

He is being held in the Saint Joseph County jail pending review by the prosecutor.
