Mishawaka Whole Foods location opens to large crowd

Posted:

Customers lined up outside the new Whole Foods Market of Mishawaka Wednesday morning.  This is the first of the grocery chain to come to the Michiana area.

Store doors opened at 9:00am with a lot of fanfare.  Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood was among those in attendance.  The store's team leader Clark Barnett gave a short speech and performed a "bread breaking" ceremony, which is Whole Foods' version of a ribbon cutting.

"It was an amazing crowd, we had a feeling that we were gonna get a good crowd, we had an amazing facebok presence, in this community, over 16 thousand likes, thats kind of unheard of for us as far as whole foods markets goes," says Barnett.

Many families were also at the opening, "It's great because I can get healthy options alot closer to home, I use to drive to the Whole Foods in Fort Wayne," says Kathy Hite of Elkhart County.

The first 100 customers inside Whole Foods got a reusable bag to shop with.
