Mishawaka schools send letter to parents about alleged threat

Posted:
Another school system has drafted a letter regarding the school threats in Elkhart and St. Joseph County.
Mishawaka schools sent the letter to parents about the threats made against students.
This is in addition to South Bend and Elkhart schools.

The following is the letter from Mishawaka schools.

April 10,2013

Dear Parent/Guardian:
As you may be aware, the media has started to report a story concerning an alleged threat against students. Accordingly, Superintendent Barker has asked us to share with you the following information:

•On or about January 21, 2013, an anonymous piece of graffiti was apparently found
on a bathroom stall in the women's restroom at an Elkhart Bureau of Motor
Vehicles office.

•The graffiti made reference to doing harm to "20 kids in 5 different schools on
4/15/2013 in St. Joseph Elkhart County."

•The Mishawaka Police Department
("MPD") has not been made aware of any additional facts or developments which lend credence to this threat. School City of Mishawaka will continue to work closely with the MPD in order to address this matter. We remain confident that our schools remain safe at all times.

We will continue to provide you with any additional relevant information that we should happen to receive. However, while it is obviously important for both school and families to take all
threats seriously, it is equally important to note that this threat was not specifically
directed against Mishawaka students, nor have we been made aware of any information
which would further corroborate this generic threat.
Please feel free to contact the school office with any additional questions. Thank you.
