Ivy Tech merging Northwest, North Central regions

Posted:

The Ivy Tech region that covers North Central Indiana will be merging with the region that covers Northwest Indiana under a plan approved by Trustees.

The merger comes after a review of potential efficiencies of combining regions. Ivy Tech expects the combination of the North Central and Northwest regions to save $1-2 million dollars a year.

The North Central region has campuses in Elkhart, South Bend and Warsaw. The Northwest region has campuses in East Chicago, Gary, Valparaiso and Michigan City. The combined regions currently enroll more than 28,000 students.

Thomas Coley, the Chancellor of the North Central Region and Interim Chancellor for the Northwest region, will serve as Chancellor of the combined region.

The Board of Trustees has also asked the College develop a plan to reduce operating expenses, which could include combining other regions, reorganization and limiting student enrollment.

Ivy Tech is the nation's largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students a year.
