"It is our responsibility to ensure that the jail is run in a safe and secure manner. we will be evaluation all aspects of this escape in an effort to try to prevent this from ever occurring again," says Grzegorek

Update 4/16/2013 --  St. Joe County Police say the inmate who escaped from the St. Joe County Jail has been captured in Bremen.

Authorities say Franklin Rice has been arrested at a residence in Bremen, Indiana.

Police say two women, 27-year-old Phetsamone Kaviyakone and 21-year-old Priscilla Minjarez have also been arrested preliminary charges of escape. Police say Kaviyakone is Rice's girlfriend.

4/16/2013 -- Authorities say Franklin Rice escaped from the St. Joseph County jail around 4:30 this morning.  He was an inmate worker, so he had access to certain areas. This is the first time anyone has escaped from the St. Joseph County Jail.

When a bread delivery truck came to the jail to drop off a delivery, police say Rice got into the truck and drove through a fence.  The truck was found abandoned near the jail.  Police believe an accomplice may have been involved.

Police say Rice got into another vehicle and fled the scene.  Rice's jail issued hat and shirt were found on Bronson Street.

Rice was incarcerated in October.  He was in jail for a burglary charge and was being held on $100,000 bond.  Sentencing for the burglary charge had been set for April 24.

Rice is 5'11" tall, 165lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.  He has no distinguishing tattoos or markings, but police said he had a mohawk hairstyle when he escaped.

When asked if Rice was dangerous, police told us any time an inmate escapes, there is danger.  The jail remains on lockdown at this time.
