UPDATE: 2 people critically injured in SR-331 crash

Posted:

Crews are investigating an accident involving a semi and a pickup truck.  The accident happened on SR-331 near Layton in St. Joseph County around noon.

Police believe the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when the pickup crossed the centerline and hit the semi's trailer leading to the crash.

Police dispatch tells FOX28 News that two people were trapped inside the pickup truck.  Those two people have been rescued.  They were taken to the hospital in critical condition.  Sgt. William Redman says the semi driver was uninjured, but was taken to an area hospital for testing.

SR-331 is closed south of Kern.  Police on the scene say the road will likely remain closed for most of the day.

Correction: Authorities originally said 4 people were involved in the crash.  That information was incorrect.  The truck driver was not injured in the crash.
