INDOT recognizes Work Zone Awareness Week

Governor Pence declared this week as Indiana's Work Zone Awareness week, to mark the ceremonial start of highway construction season.

Their theme this year is "No One Drives Through Your Office at 70 miles per hour" and is featured in a new PSA. The Indiana Department of Transportation wants to raise awareness about driver and worker safety in work zones.

"When you're angry and you're driving distracted and you're speeding through those areas, you're not helping anybody. You're putting yourself in danger, you're endangering these people that have families and would like to go home safely," says Matt Deitchley, INDOT Media Relations Director.

Last year, 8 people were killed and over 500 were hurt in Indiana work zones.
