Flooding has reached homes around a lake in southern Michigan and prompted officials to shut down a public access site to the water.
The Sturgis Journal reports St. Joseph County Sheriff Brad Balk says flooding around Sturgeon Lake led to the decision about the public access site in Colon.
Balk says that until further notice a no-wake rule is in effect for boaters on Sturgeon Lake, since waves could increase damage to area homes.
Several homes around the lake about 70 miles southeast of Grand Rapids have water in the basement, while others are surrounded by water.
