Food Alert: Cucumbers from Mexico

Cucumbers from a Mexican company are being linked to salmonella cases in 18 states.

The Food and Drug Administration has issued an alert concerning cucumbers from the Daniel Cardenas Izabal and Miracle Greenhouse of Mexico.

The alert means the United States will not accept imports of cucumbers from those companies unless they prove the cucumbers are safe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 73 people may have gotten sick.

Salmonella can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within a few days of eating a contaminated product.

Salmonella can be life-threatening to those with weakened immune systems.
