ISTEP testing disrupted from computer problems

Posted:

Statewide standardized testing for many students in Indiana, including our area, was disrupted on Monday.

ISTEP+ testing was supposed to run throughout the day in many parts of the state, including here in Michiana.  A disruption from the testing company led to a loss of testing for some students.  Indianapolis Public Schools spokesman John Althardt tells The Indianapolis Star that computer screens froze in some cases and students were kicked out of the system.

Vendor CTB issued a statement saying it was working to resolve the problem.

Sue Coney with the South bend Community School Corporation says teachers and other staff members were able to "minimize the disruptions to students and ensure each student was given extra time to accommodate for any time lost due to computer connectivity issues."

Some of the days testing was postponed due to the disruption, but it does not appear that retesting will be necessary.

Testing was suspended Monday in districts including Indianapolis, Carmel, West Lafayette and Brownsburg. Schools in Shelby and Tippecanoe counties also reported problems.
