Four Winds Dowagiac opens Tuesday

Four Winds Dowagiac will be opening its doors to the public Tuesday.

The casino is the Pokagon Band's third casino in Southwest Michigan. This facility is smaller than the Hartford and New Buffalo locations but it offers much of the same amenities. It has four table games, and 300 slot machines.

Dowagiac Mayor Don Lyons says, "Economic development is a case of 100 little victories, and I would rather have a hundred little victories everyday and over time, over months, over years they add up into a very real, viable community."

The relationship between the city and the tribe has been very positive as well.

Matthew Wesaw, Chairman of Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, says, "This is home. Our government offices are here, a lot of our people live here. This is home like we said earlier. The response has been great, you look at the economy and the lack of jobs; and everyone welcomed us."

The casino has provided employment and the promise of further economic activity in the area.
