Students celebrate Take Ten program

Posted:

Some students in Saint Joseph County are celebrating another successful year of the Take Ten program.  The kids had a party full of music, games and lots of pizza at the Robinson Community Learning Center.

The program teaches young kids conflict resolution skills, along with how to prevent violence and bullying.  Instead of reacting instantly they're taught to talk it out, walk it out and wait it out.  "Well it started in Chicago as a slogan campaign and came to South Bend about 13 years ago. An answer as to hey there's so much violence in our culture, so much violence they see in the popular entertainment industry. We want to teach them a short way of combating that and making different choices," said Ellen Kyes the Director of Take Ten Program.

The program is a part of Notre Dame and reaches kids at several school districts in the area and beyond.
