A Golden Night Prom held for those with special needs

A "Golden Night Prom" was held Saturday night at the Logan Center for students with special needs. 

Dozens of students attended the big event.  It's designed to let teens enjoy themselves with their friends from other High Schools who have disabilities as well.  Everyone was welcomed into the Logan Center by a round of applause.  After arriving everyone sat down for a meal of pizza and dessert.  Then the dancing began and there were no shy ones on this dance floor.  Students tell us they were very excited to be at the prom.  "It's beautiful behind me and I can't believe it and it's really fun, I really like it," said Veronica Go.

The Penn High School Dream Commission Society along with Harris Prairie Church of Christ put on the dance.  The Dream Commission Society's goal is to grant wishes for students with special needs.  And that's what Saturday's prom was all about.   Lauren Nidea with the Penn HS Dream Commission Society said, "I hope they have a lot of fun and they remember it for the rest of their life."

This was the first prom at the Logan Center but organizers hope to do it again.  The them of a "Golden Night" was inspired by Christian Pop artist Britt Nichole's song "Gold."  In her song she tells teens that they are worth more than gold.
