Break-in suspect shot early Monday morning in Fulton County

A Kewanna man was shot early Monday morning during a break-in.  It all went down on North Toner Street in Kewanna, which is just east of State Road 17. Police say 34-year-old Camron Vawter heard someone trying to break in just after midnight, so he grabbed a gun.

The man who was allegedly trying to break in was 41-year-old Michael Richter, who was also armed. There was a confrontation between the two men before Vawter says he shot Richter, took his gun, and called police.  Richter was taken to the hospital and was last listed in critical, but stable, condition.

A woman inside the home tells police that she is currently in divorce proceedings with Richter. He is expected to face criminal charges after being released from the hospital.
