Local post offices prepare for Stamp Out Hunger Day

This Saturday is a pretty important day for the Food Bank of Northern Indiana - its Stamp Out Hunger Day.

The U-S Postal Service and the Food Bank held a rally Monday to spread the word about the importance of the drive.

They'll be trying to collect 200-thousand pounds of non-perishable foods.

This is the group's largest food drive every year since its pretty important for the community.

People can do without some things but they can't do without food.

Milt Lee of the Northern Indiana Food Bank says, "Its a community health issue. When kids are hungry they don't focus as well, do as well in school. When seniors have to make choices between whether to pay the light bill and whether they're going to eat this week."

So make sure you put your bag out next to your mailbox this Saturday.

It takes just a couple of cans from every house in Saint Joe County.

If you're not going to be home you can drop off the food at any Kroger, Martin's and the Post Office.
