Warsaw mother accused of hitting daughter with belt

A Warsaw mother is in police custody, accused of hitting her 4-year-old daughter with a belt.

Officials with the Department of Child Service (DCS) were at the home of 26-year-old Sherena Harris on Monday for a home inspection.  During the interview, case workers say they saw bruises on Harris' daughter.

Harris was taken to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department for further questioning, where police say, she admitted to hitting the 4-year-old with a belt and taping her mouth shut.

Harris is facing charges of Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury to a Victim Under the Age of 14-year-old and Neglect of a Dependent.  She is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on $2,000 bond.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
