South Bend Community School Corporation Board of School Trustee John Stancati died Thursday evening, May 9th from an extended illness.  Mr. Stancati was elected to the School Board in 2010 and represented the second district.

"I am truly saddened to hear about the passing of our Board member, John Stancati.  John was a wonderful man and a dedicated public servant who understood the importance of serving not only the children in his district, but the entire community.  I join with so many others who knew John in offering my deepest sympathy to his family and friends" said Superintendent Carole Schmidt.

Arrangements are pending.

Statement from Mayor Pete Buttigieg on John Stancati's passing

"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend John Stancati this morning. John touched countless lives in our community as a public servant with both the City and the School Board, as a founder of the Summit Club, and in his numerous civic and charitable activities. He was a joy to be aroundquick with a joke, always companionable, and unswervingly loyal to his friends and to the community. We will miss his warmth and big heart, and our thoughts and prayers are with Joan and John's family."
