Protect your plants from the mid-May freeze

Plants are pretty popular Mother's Day gifts, but don't get too eager to put them in the ground

The next few nights will be a bit chilly and your plants could be at risk. Experts say, if you have perennials, they've had time to acclimate to the weather and will be fine in the chill.

But be cautious with anything newly planted, try to cover them up with blankets so they survive the night.

"I wouldn't plant until after these next couple of days go by. If you have some plants that are like hanging baskets or your patio planters, move them into the garage or move them in to something enclosed and they'll be fine," says Steve Kruse, owner of Kruse Farm Supply.

He says, if you can, wait until the end of the week to put new plants in the ground.
