Plymouth man dies in farming accident

A Plymouth man was killed earlier today when his clothing got caught in machinery in a field west of LaPaz.

61-year-old Rick Pertics told his wife that he would be tending to the irrigation equipment during the night. His family was unable to reach him the next morning. Family members went to the farm and discovered his body next to the equipment.

Officials say Pertics' clothing got caught in a shaft connecting an engine and pump on an irrigation device. Deputy Coroner Les Trump said that they are unsure as to what time Pertics actually got caught in the equipment. An autopsy conducted late this afternoon confirmed that death was caused by severe internal injuries.

Final results of an autopsy will not be available for about six weeks.

La Paz Fire and EMS and the Marshall County Police Department assisted at the scene.
