With the case of three Ohio women vanishing for ten years fresh in peoples' minds, child safety has become a top priority for parents. That's why officials in Bridgman are holding a Child Safety Awareness Event Tuesday.

From 4 to 6:30 p.m. there will be an open house held at the town's public library at 4460 Lake Street. Inside, there will be a number of things that parents can do to help keep their kids safe, including:

  • Vision screening for kids as young as one
  • Car seat checks from the Berrien County Sheriff's Department
  • Safety information from the Health Department and Poison Control Center
  • Dental impressions and finger prints taken
  • Safety discussion with the Bridgman Police Department
  • Fire safety information from the Bridgman Fire Department
  • Water safety information from the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project
  • Electric safety information from Indiana Michigan Power

The event is targeted for families who have children age 10 or younger.
