Berrien Springs students try out "Fatal Vision" goggles

Some high school students in Berrien Springs had a chance to experience what being under the influence does to their behavior.

They tried on different intoxication levels of "Fatal Vision" goggles and performed standard field sobriety tests.

It was in preparation for next week, when the students will wear the goggles to try out the Intoxicated Distracted Driving Education Awareness Project car.

Officer Rick Smiedendorf says that exposing the kids to these types of things really makes an impact.

He says, "There's a good bunch of students up here. They've had, through the course of our lessons, they've asked some real good questions. They're alert, they're aware."

This event is part of Berrien Springs High School's Street Law class, a hands-on course designed to teach students about laws they come across in every day life.
