Customers in multiple Michiana counties wake up in the dark

Indiana Michigan Power customers in both St. Joseph County, Indiana and Berrien County woke up with no electricity Wednesday morning.

St. Joseph County dispatchers tell us they had a number of outages caused by trees falling on power lines on Ardmore Trail near the corners of Fairview Avenue and Sheridan Street in South Bend.

Up to 746 customers were out of power in St. Joseph County. Indiana Michigan Power officials responded to the problem and that number has since gone down. All customers are expected to be back online around 1 p.m.

Meanwhile as many as 721 Berrien County customers were out of power throughout early Wednesday. We're told the outages are in the Coloma area and were caused by downed trees on power lines. Power in Berrien County is expected to be restored by 8:30 a.m.

As many as 321 outages were reported in LaPorte County. No word on what caused those outages.
