South Bend committee to look at animal control laws

The City of South Bend's animal control laws are under scrutiny Thursday.

South Bend Common Council member Valerie Schey has formed a special committee to review the decades old laws.

The goal of the committee is to look at how the city is applying the laws.

And to try and bring them up to code to meet today's standards of care.

There are several topics that are being discussed.

"One of the topics we're also going to be looking at is currently in the City of South Bend we do have breed specific legislation which unfairly judges an animal based on its appearance versus temperament and behavior," said South Bend Common Council member Valerie Schey.

Some other areas to be looked at are pet limit and anti-tethering laws.
