Indiana native wins Indy 500 pole

For most aspiring race car drivers, the Indy 500 is something they dream about... but for this year's pole sitter, the 500 was just a normal part of everyday life.

Indianapolis native Ed Carpenter, is the stepson of IndyCar Series founder Tony George and he grew up on the bricks.
Today, Carpenter won his first 500 pole during the "Fast Nine" qualifying session.
Carpenter had a four-lap average of 228.762 mph.
Carloz Munoz took the front middle, Marco Andretti took the outside front and E.J. Viso took the inside of Row 2.
Penske's A.J. Allmendinger and Will Power rounded out the second row.
