UPDATE: One woman shot in early morning South Bend break-in

South Bend police are investigating a shooting that sent one woman to the hospital early Monday morning.

It happened around 4:13 on the 1200 block of South 30th Street, which is in the city's River Park neighborhood. Police say the suspect kicked in the door to a home and shot 32-year-old Gigi Riley in the stomach, but nothing is known about that suspect at this time.

As for the victim, she's in fair condition at a local hospital at this time. She is expected to live.

Riley pleaded guilty in February to federal charges involving fake tax records.  She, and five others, are accused of submitting around 1200 fake returns.  She agreed to testify in the other trials that are scheduled to begin in October.

Police are investigating whether the two crimes are related.  Police do say that most home invasions, like the one in this shooting, involve robbery.

If you know anything about the suspect involved in this shooting you're asked to call South Bend police.
