Cook Nuclear Unit 1 returns to service

Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 1 is back in service after an outage for refueling.

The reactor, one of two at the Bridgman plant, returned to service Sunday evening, 53 days after going offline for the fueling. Indiana Michigan Power says the outage was longer than normal to allow for some planned maintenance on the reactor.

Before the outage, I&M says the plant ran for 518 consecutive days, beating an old record of 471 days set in 1994.

At full capacity, Cook Units 1 and 2 produce enough combined electricity to power about 1.5 million homes.
