South Bend's longest-serving mayor has a new job.

The South Bend Alumni Association has named Stephen Luecke as its executive director. Luecke was mayor from 1997 to 2011.

"We're excited to have a person of Steve's caliber to lead our organization as we continue to develop and grow," Board Chairman Tim Baker said in a release.

"I am honored to have been selected for this position and eager to join the South Bend Alumni Association team," Luecke said in the release. "The SBAA has a valued history of supporting our students and our schools. More importantly, they have a clear vision to expand these outstanding services. I look forward to working with graduates and with school and community officials to advance the SBAA mission."

The goal of the South Bend Alumni Association is to help fund co-curricular activities that are not tax funded and instill an awareness of the need for student services in the community.

Luecke is expected to start his new job June 10.
