Elkhart residents clean out their files

Hundreds of people came to the Civic Plaza in Elkhart, Wednesday, for the eleventh annual clean your files day.  The event was sponsored by The City of Elkhart's Public Works and Utilities, Integra Certified Document Destruction, and the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce.

Drivers did not even have to get out of their cars to participate.  Workers would remove files from peoples cars and place them into large bins.  The bins were immediately taken to a truck, where they were run though a giant shredder.

The Environmental Utilities Coordinator for the City of Elkhart, Megan Kolaczyk, was excited to see so much interest in the recycling program.  "Not only is this a good way of recycling our paper and helping the environment," Kolaczyk said, "but it is also a good way to get rid of old sensitive documents that we might have."
