Students help plant trees at OxBow Park

Third graders from Concord Oxbow Elementary school joined NIPSCO and the Elkhart County Parks Department to plant trees at OxBow County Park on Thursday.

The Trees with Schools event was a continuation of Indiana's Arbor Day events.

The students planted twenty trees at the park entrance and learned the importance of planting trees clear of utility lines.

NIPSCO hosts the event to talk about placing the right tree in the right place, in order to provide safe and reliable power.

John Stout, supervisor of forestry operations for NIPSCO called the event a great opportunity for the kids as well as the community and parks department.

In addition to the planting, students also received a Douglas Fir seedling to plant in their own yard if they have room.
