3000 students honored for community service work

Thousands of Elkhart students got to celebrate a huge achievement on Friday.  The teens from Elkhart Central and Memorial High Schools provided 30,000 hours of service to the community.

Dubbed "Service Project X," 3,000 students took part in a wide range of projects, from individuals raking leaves for neighbors, to teams working with Habitat for Humanity, to writing letters to military personnel, and beyond.

Leaders of the service programs they helped say these kids really stepped up in a big way to help their community.  "This will be something they will remember for the rest of their lives and now it's something that others can get involved with," said Church Community Services Executive Director Rob Roberson.

Since so many students were in one place at one time, they took the opportunity today to try and break the Guiness World Record for the largest game of red light-green light.

Students also had the opportunity to take part in 20 different events including live action role playing (LARPing), basketball, soccer ball, juggling, and Rubics Cube races.
