Overnight storms cause several outages

Thousands of electric customers woke up in the dark Wednesday morning across Michiana, thanks to an overnight storm system.

Customers in St. Joseph County caught the brunt of the storm. At one point there were 45-hundred of them out of power. Dispatchers tell FOX 28 many of those outages came from a downed power line on Edison Road between South Bend and New Carlisle.

Several neighborhoods on South Bend's south side also saw outages. On Ireland Road a stop light functioning as a four-way stop delayed traffic during the morning commute.

But St. Joseph County was not the only place affected. According to Indiana Michigan Power's website,  Elkhart, Berrien, and LaPorte Counties all had more than one-thousand  outages at certain points throughout the night.

In addition, NIPSCO reported outages in LaPorte and Michigan City that affected hundreds of customers.

If you want to track those outages for yourself, check out Indiana Michian Power's website, and NIPSCO's website.
