Central baseball advances to state championship

The Elkhart Central baseball team has had the bulls eye on it's back all season... but the second ranked Blazers have carried the pressure with a mohawk and a smile.  Saturday, Central was playing in it's first semi-state in 25 years against Lafayette Jefferson.

It was a defensive battle and pitchers duel early between Jefferson's Pete Ripke and Central's Tanner Tully.

It was scoreless in the 5th when Tully tried to pick off the runner at first, but the throw home was off and the run would score giving LJHS a 1-0 lead.

But the Blazers recovered, Tully got the strikeout to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 5th, the Blazers answered.  Cory Malcolm hit an RBI single to tie the game at 1.

Then Riley Futterknecht drove in the go ahead run.  Tully finished with 10 strikeouts and Elkhart Central would win 2-1 to win it's first Semi-State crown.
