Garner's decision pays off; makes promise to his mother

David Garner was drafted by the Cubs in the 7th round Friday.  Fellow Niles Grad Allison Hayes tells us that life is all about choices... and David made the right one.
Just three years ago, Niles 3-sport star David Garner was faced with the toughest decision of his life.  Take the guaranteed money of professional baseball or risk it all for a scholarship at Michigan State...that gamble paid off.
In 2010, Garner was drafted in the 33rd round by the Cincinnati Reds.  He was faced with a lot of what if's.  Garner chose college and became a starter pitcher for the Spartans, where he had a 15-and-12 record and is 6th all time in strikeouts with 192.
The time was right for him to move on to the pros and he became the highest drafted Michigan State player in 13 years, going in the 7th round to the Chicago Cubs.
"He came in and said 'mom, I'm a Chicago Cub' and I said 'thank you Jesus!'" David's mom, Sandra Morgan said.
Although Garner is leaving school one year shy of completing his degree in sociology, but he has made a promise to his mom.
Garner says he is going to get his college degree.
It's all about to begin for Garner, he leaves for the Cubs training facility in Mesa, Arizona Tuesday.  Then he will be sent to Boise for the Cubs summer league team.
