Taxpayers to learn more about Mishawaka School hikes Tuesday

Taxpayers within the School City of Mishawaka district will have their chance to learn more about a possible tax hike coming up on Tuesday.

Back in May district officials told FOX 28 they're looking for $28 million dollars which would go to a number of improvements. They want to upgrade their security systems, including the installation of cameras. They also want new windows, air conditioner and furnace systems, computers and to repave parking lots.

At this point the district has $2 million dollars in capital expenditures. So for someone with a $100-thousand dollar home, the tax hike would cost an additional $100 dollars per year for 20 years.

The issue will go on a special election ballot next year. Officials will be able to take public input and answer questions about the project at the meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at the administration building at 1402 South Main Street.
