The storm was so bad the Indiana Toll Road banned triple, long-double, and high profile oversize permit load trucks. But even drivers who weren't banned still pulled over because they didn't feel safe. Truck Driver John Williams said, "you have a lot of accidents in stuff like that."
Williams was driving his truck to Pennsylvania when he pulled over to wait out the rain and high winds. "Too high, 35-40 mph. We can't drive in that kind of weather like that. I'm top heavy too, that's real bad."
The winds weren't just blowing flags around. A billboard came down during the storm in South Bend. And fallen trees were everywhere. One blocked two lanes of traffic on State Road 19 in Elkhart. Another crushed a South Bend home. Yadira and Gabriela Gil said, "It's so scary...it's unbelievable." The sisters came home from church to find a tree on top of their next door neighbor's home. They said three people were inside but all got out safely. "I guess they broke a window and helped them out through the window"
Everyone was also ok at a home off Johnson road where a tree crashed through the back of the house.
More good news, neighbors said no one was hurt when a tree fell on Pearl Street, but it was still frightening. "Basically it was a loud crack. I looked out the window and just saw the tree fall down on the house," said Tom Gerschoffer.
Surreal is how Renee Pugh describes coming home to a tree on her front porch. "You see these things in the movies but when it's actually your life, your family that could be injured or hurt it really puts a different perspective on it."
There was a tornado that was reported on the ground in Pulaski County. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department told us they had no reports of injuries. But the EMA has set up a shelter at the Bethel Bible Church on State Road 14 for anyone who needs it. Also, Pulaski schools are under a two hour delay Monday.
