Campers have a blast at MDA camp

The weather was perfect Thursday at Camp Potawatomi in LaGrange County where nearly fifty MDA campers are spending the week. The Muscular Dystrophy Association works to provide a camp experience for kids who most likely would not be able to attend a traditional camp.

The camp specializes in providing a safe and fun experience for these kids.

Counselor Jon Falk said, "Up here everyone's kind of equal, so there's no peer pressure and they have the freedom to express themselves as they wish, and you know do things without scrutiny. It's a good thing."

Campers have baseball games, do crafts, swim, fish, horseback ride and just have a great time.

For camper Natalie Holmas camp is a chance to just be a normal kid.

"It's an amazing week that I feel normal, like a regular kid. I can do pretty much anything but for a short period of time."

The camp experience holds a special place in the kids hearts and it's not just for the activities.

Camper Zach Barnes summed it up perfectly when he said, "It's not necessarily the activities, it's more of the people that are involved. I don't know, everyone's just so great around here, funny, and all around awesome."

The experience is paid for by donations to MDA and campers don't have to pay a dime for camp. The camp wraps up Friday.
