Immigration reform a hotly debated topic in Michiana

Immigration has a lot of people fired up, including some in Michiana. The so-called "Gang of 8" in the US Senate thinks they have the solution to the seemingly never ending debate.

The Northern Indiana American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations likes their ideas too. They rallied at the St. Joseph County Courthouse Friday afternoon to show their support.

The group's president says he wants Indiana Senators Dan Coats and Joe Donnelly to put their seal of approval on the Gang of 8's plan.

Tony Florida is president of the Northern Indiana AFLCIO. He said, "Our immigration system has been out of sync with reality for years. There are at least 11 million people in our country who are in our country. They're part of our communities, but not fully with us because they lack legal status."

The immigration reform bill is currently up for debate on the Senate floor.
