International dog show returns to South Bend

You've seen the famous dog shows on TV, now it's your chance to experience nearly the same thing in South Bend. It will just be on a smaller scale.

The Michiana Kennel Club International Dog Show is underway at the St. Joe County Fairgrounds.

Competition judge Joe Lobb said, "Everyone is on a level playing field.  You can be a doctor, a lawyer, a janitor or even unemployed for that matter, and if you've got the best dog, it should win."

The competition has returned to St. Joseph after taking place out of the area for a number of years. This has sparked excitement in the community.

Cheryl Compton of the Michiana Kennel Club said, "For years we have been in Valpo with our shows because of conflicts we were unable to get in the St. Joe County Fairgrounds.  We are now thrilled to be able to come home!"

The competition is fun for owners and dogs alike

"It's the camaraderie, being with the dogs a little bit of this, the unexpected all the time," said dog owner David Daugherty.

The shows start both Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8:00am.
